1) Calculate time spent doing specific activity

How can I calculate the time spent on custom activities in ACT! - for instance, the hours spent traveling or time spent meeting with a customer, etc.?

You can create a report of time spent on custom activities by creating a new activity type and recording the time spent in the History. To do this:

1. Create a new 'Activity Type' by clicking 'Schedule > Manage > Activity Types'.
2. Whenever you do this, right-click the 'History' tab and record the activity and the time spent.
3. Create 'History Time Spent' report to view the total time spent on this activity.

2) Sales Lead Data-Entry Made Easy

I spend a lot of time entering hundreds of contacts from online directories into my ACT!. I would do better if I had this time for selling. Is there a smart way to do this?

Yes! ListGrabber helps you to pull out contact information from hundreds of online directories and automatically add them to your ACT!.

It does in one hour what it would have otherwise taken you 60 hours to do. Now, with a single click, you can capture contacts from websites & documents and save them in your ACT!.

  3) Use Plain Speak; Avoid Jargons

Focusing on benefits, rather than jargons can help you sell successfully. If you want to cultivate a long-term relationship with your customers, avoid using acronyms or buzzwords and explain the benefits clearly.

When negotiating or making a sales presentation, you should speak the same language and use the same terms as your prospects. This ensures that you are clearly understood. Never try to sound impressive. Always remember that prospects would not invest in a product that they don’t understand.

  4) Negotiate to Win

If you do your ground work and prepare beforehand, negotiating will not be a necessary evil for you. When you are adequately prepared you will be confident, positive and ready to win.

Before beginning the negotiating process, you should have established a good relationship with the client. After you have a good idea about what they feel about this sale, you will be able to negotiate successfully. Set aside your ego and concentrate on being logical. Patience is a virtue that comes handy during a negotiation. Listen carefuly to reach a win-win compromise.
