Be Innovative in Responding to Customer Needs

One of the key expectations that customers have of professional B2B salespeople is that they have to be proactive and innovative in responding to their needs. To be considered a reliable and cost-effective business partner by your customer, your service to them should be in tune with the realities in the marketplace. Your product, pricing, promotion, etc .should all be adjusted to this. Ask yourself:

- Do I understand the implications of changing customer needs on my business?
- How do I stay close to my customers as their requirements change?
- How can I (and my organization) re-align to best support my customers' new needs?

Stay close to your customers and when you see their needs changing, seize the opportunity to innovate and adjust quickly.

Always Suggest the Next Step in the Sales Process

One of the key ways to build credibility and increase the effectiveness of your sales call is to suggest the next step to the prospect in their buying process. Successful sales people always make a recommendation rather than asking their prospects how they'd like to proceed. This tells your prospect that you have experience and that you know the process enough to make them feel comfortable.

The 'next step' could be a follow-up meeting, a meeting with other people in the prospect's company, etc. It is important that you learn to do this, since in most cases, pushing for a sale after just one Meeting / call is premature and might disrupt the sales process. Hence your objective should be to lead the prospect, one step at a time, towards the sale.
