Research your Candidates on Blogs and Forums using Google

In addition to social networking sites, recruiters increasingly use blogs and forums to research candidates. Articles, blog posts, comments, etc. written by candidates can help recruiters in making the right hiring decisions.

The Google search syntax to get candidates' web foot-prints on blogs and forums is as follows:

"Candidate Name" (blog OR blogs OR archives OR posted OR tags OR forum OR article OR rss OR feed)

For example, if you are looking for details about Glen Cathey of Boolean Black Belt, the search string will be

"Glen Cathey" (blog OR blogs OR archives OR posted OR tags OR forum OR article OR rss OR feed)

You can also add events, conferences and meetings to the above search string for more results.

Get the Selling Points of the Job from the Hiring Manager

The most important thing to do when you are meeting with a hiring manager, about a job order, is to get her to say the 'selling points' of the job.

If the client prefers a candidate who is not actively looking for a job (a passive candidate), getting the right selling points are even more important. Why would someone quit a perfectly good job and go to work for your client's company? Gather info that will address this.

Successful recruiters use a check list to gather vital information from the hiring managers. This check list should allow you to address major points and get the most data possible in the least amount of time. Doing this can help you in writing successful job ads and scripting better calls with your candidates.
