Problems
faced
As a part of EPCglobal's business
plan for 2005 they needed to pull
a great deal of contact information,
that would serve them as leads, from
various public online sources. They
had to do this in the shortest possible
time, which meant they had to search
for leads over the web, type them
into the database, check for accuracy
and correct typos, if any. The leads
were then passed on to Sales team
for follow-up.
Quality of the data was a prime concern
as any manual process was prone to
errors and wrong contact data meant
lost sales straight away. But getting
the list out in time was also critical.
As it took 3-4 hours a day doing it
manually they were sure they wouldn't
get it done in the given time. This
was becoming a bottleneck as the Sales
team's task was set based on this.

Discovery
of a tool that propelled EPCglobal to
reach their target
Every time Richard Hoare receives a report from his team he is told that they were behind
schedule. Richard had to intervene and find what caused the delay? As the Managing Director of
the company in the US, Richard Hoare says "He was accountable for setting the pace of activities to
launch their business expansion as planned". After a brief talk with his team members he learnt that
the main cause for the delay was something everyone of us did on a daily routine - hi-lighting, copying
and then pasting contacts. He immediately realized that their future plans could be brought on track if
only he found a way to solve this. He walked into his office the next day and as he was Googling around
for some Marketing tools, he found one which illustrated a better way to get business leads faster. "I was
