How to Find Someone’s Email Address on LinkedIn – 3 Steps
To find someone’s email address from LinkedIn, try the following 3 steps:
1. Find your prospects’ company website address
2. Find out the email patterns used by your prospects’ company
3. Test your email patterns to find the right one
Step 1. Find your prospects’ company website address
This is the first step to find someone’s email on LinkedIn. When you open your prospect’s LinkedIn profile, you need to first get your prospect’s company website address. Because, you need the company website address to find the email domain. Most of the companies have the same company website and email domain.
On your prospect’s LinkedIn profile, click on the company (name) in which they are working. If in case, they are working in multiple companies, click on the company that you want to find email address.
You will be navigated to the LinkedIn Company page. The My Company tab is displayed by default.
Click on “Visit website” button. It will navigate you to your prospect’s company website.
That’s Clue#1. Keep a note of that.
Step 2. Find out the email patterns used by your prospects’ company
The next step is to use the email patterns used by your prospect’s company. All companies use a certain email pattern. In large companies, they will have a handful of email patterns that they use for everyone.
Some of the most common email patterns that are used are:
# firstname.lastname, as in firstname.lastname@example.org
# firstname, as in email@example.com
# firstname.lastInitial, as in firstname.lastname@example.org
You’ve probably noticed 10 other types of email patterns. And you’re right. We are now going to find out the email patterns for the company that we are interested in.
To find email patterns, I am going to use a search engine called DuckDuckGo. It is one of the best alternative search engines to Google. We prefer to use DuckDuckGo because, we need to perform a particular search that doesn’t work well on Google.
Open DuckDuckGo and just type in the last part of the company website address that you found in the previous step. Remove the “https://” & the “www.” and replace that with a @ sign and put the remaining in double-quotes.
For example, if your prospect’s company website address is “https://www.ey.com“, then in DuckDuckGo you will search for “@ey.com.” Ensure that you are using double quotes on both the sides because it is important.
Click this sample DuckDuckGo search and replace the text in the search box. Type in the website address of the company you are interested in.
You can see that the company has used the firstname.lastname email pattern.
We now have Clue #2. (Tip: To get the search text highlighted just like I got in the image above, press Ctrl+F on your browser and type in the email domain – this makes things much easier!)
It is just the first page of your search result. Flip through the search results (web pages) to find more email patterns. Please find below the other email patterns that are used by ey.com:
Step 3. Test your email patterns to find the right one
Once you have found a few email patterns, you need to narrow down the right email patterns now. You will have to use another online tool to find the email pattern that is working.
Open www.mailtester.com. It is one of the oldest but effective tools used by expert email finders.
Enter the email pattern that you constructed in the previous step and click the “Check address” button. The results are displayed in a second, which looks like this (if you’re lucky!)
You have to look at the last line. It says that the Email address is valid which means it will work when you send an email to it. YOU’RE DONE!
If in case you get a message highlighted in red, it means that the email address is invalid or does not exist. You need to now try the next email pattern that you constructed in the previous step.
What if I didn’t get the right email address?
All the above steps will help you to get email address of your prospects found on LinkedIn. If you have found the right email address, Congratulations.
On the other hand, if you have not found the email address, there can be many reasons why you couldn’t find the right email address in your first attempt. Just like learning new things, you need to try some other email finding techniques until you get it right.
- People use Nicknames in their email: Robert may use [email protected]
- People may use their middle names: Tory may use [email protected]
- Some people might have left that company & forgot to update their LinkedIn profile. (it happens!)
- Companies might have country-specific email domains, such as @fr.ey.com and @uk.ey.com
- Most of the email addresses that you verify turn up as “Unknown” or “Server does not respond” (because free email verifiers have limitations)
- many more…
If you want to find email address of 1 prospect, you need to manually do all the 3 steps mentioned above. In the same way, you have to repeat all the three processes for all the prospects to get email address from LinkedIn. Imagine how much time it would take if you want to find email addresses for 100s of prospects. It is a very time-consuming and tedious task. Why Business Email Address?
There is a reason. LinkedIn is a professional networking site and most of the professionals prefer using their personal email address to sign up. Why because even if they move to another company, they can continue to use their account. They would have spent a lot of time and effort to build their profile, get connected to peers & professionals and expand their network. They would never want to lose this at any cost. So, mining the LinkedIn profiles might get you only personal email addresses and a very few business email addresses.
People, especially C-level decision makers & executives, don’t often check their personal emails; especially during business hours. They reserve those tasks during weekends or leisure time. Therefore, trying to reach your prospects on their personal email addresses might not get you the desired responses or results.
On the other hand, if you try to reach them via their business email address, you get immediate response if you reach out to the right person with the right message. They don’t wish or prefer to mix up professional communication with personal ones. Therefore, finding business email addresses of your prospects is very important.
